Heroes
A show called Heroes is my latest TV show obsession. I have been watching it on Netflix, so I get to watch as many episodes as a want a day until I run out. I have mostly been using this show as a way to pass the time (not that I have any time lol), but I also can't wait to find out what happens next to the characters, and of course we have our favorites we cheer for. When I think about it though, it is rather amusing how my husband and I get so involved in the characters. The other day in church my husband leaned over to me and pointed out a man who looked like the bad guy in Heroes. After that it was almost impossible to look at that man without thinking about the awful villain portrayed in Heroes. My husband has been dreaming over and over about having powers or escaping bad guys with powers. The show is almost always on my mind as I think about what is happening and what could possibly happen next. I have found that television shows so often engross us, and that we must apply Richard G. Scott's quote to our media usage.
"It is important that our daily activities do not distract us from listening to the Spirit".
—Elder Richard G. Scott
Media can be great and shows often great fun, but this quote has helped remind me of the moderation in all things principle. It is so important to have quiet time in the day where we can listen to our hearts and distance ourselves from the noise that constantly surrounds us. I am as guilty as anyone for not making time for this, but hopefully I can get better and make the time to ponder more.

I have the same issue with a few of my favorite TV shows. I get so engrossed in the storyline and the characters that it starts to influence my daily life. I agree with you 100% about taking some quiet time every day: turn off the TV, close down the computer, put away the phone and just pay more attention to the real world every now and then.
ReplyDeleteSo true! Really great thoughts on how media can take over in our life sometimes!
ReplyDeleteI love heroes too! I stopped watching it when I got into college, but until then I thought it was awesome. Especially Peter-who is Jesse one Gilmore Girls which I loved as well :)Anyway, good choice in show. But I will warn you, the later seasons do get a bit weird.
